Telkom donates materials for ICT labs at Eastern Cape schools

Telkom has joined private and public partners in a commitment to providing equipment to furnish ICT labs for three Eastern Cape schools. This donation is part of a larger Telkom initiative to support the government of South Africa in ensuring that citizens throughout the country have access to reliable broadband.

Telkom was invited to participate in this initiative by Eastern Cape premier Phumulo Marsualle, as part of his “Back to School” campaign aimed at transforming needy schools throughout the province into centres of excellence. The three schools receiving Telkom’s donations are:

  • Zanolwazi High School
  • Lungisa High School
  • Maritime High School

“Telkom is thrilled to be part of this initiative,” said Sarah Mthintso, Head: Telkom Foundation. “We’ve made digital readiness, closing the digital divide and assuring access to broadband for all South Africans, a top priority. We’re delighted to donate much needed equipment to these schools to ensure that all students have access to all the educational benefits of digital integration.”

In addition to the product donation, Telkom will be offering quarterly training for a year to school leadership and educators, commencing 1 April 2016.

Telkom continues to explore options to assist the government to provide broadband access to South Africans and closing the digital divide.
