The Telkom Mobile Service Management team was named Service Management Team of the Year at the annual award of the South African chapter of the IT Service Management Forum (itSMF). The award was for the team’s service management improvement programme, aimed at enhancing the customer experience. The itSMF is an independent and internationally recognised forum for IT service management professionals, with over 50 chapters worldwide.
The Royal Cape Yacht Club, organisers of the Cape-to-Rio race, has recognised the contribution that Telkom Maritime Radio Services played in the rescue of yachts in distress during violent storms that struck the 2014 race. The commodore of the club presented an award to Telkom’s Dirk Thiart and John Prinsloo at an awards ceremony in June 2014, when the South African Navy, Maritime Sea Rescue Coordination Centre and National Sea Rescue Institute also received awards for their role in the rescues. Telkom Maritime Radio is a vital part of South Africa's safety-at-sea infrastructure, using sophisticated electronic equipment to monitor South Africa's coastline.
In August 2013, The Corporate Research Foundation awarded the Top Employers Certification to Telkom. This is an accolade granted only to organisations that achieved the highest standards of excellence in employee conditions. The Institute, which is a global organisation with its headquarters in the Netherlands, commended Telkom for its continued efforts towards culture transformation and learning and development opportunities.
Telkom was named "Best fixed broadband service provider in SA" and "Best mobile broadband operator in SA" at the annual MyBroadband Conference in October 2013. This was the third consecutive year that we received the fixed broadband award and the second year as best mobile broadband provider.
Among state owned enterprises (SOEs), Telkom has outperformed its peers for B-BBEE compliance and enterprise development. In August 2013, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and the State Owned Enterprises Procurement Forum presented two procurement awards to Telkom. One was the award for Most Empowered SOE in Compliance to B-BBEE and the other was the Best Supplier and Enterprise Development award.
At the 2013 workshop of Integrated Reporting and Assurance Services (IRAS), Telkom was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) category. The award confirmed the usefulness of the quantitative sustainability information provided in the 2012 Telkom Integrated Report, particularly for comparative analysis.
The IT service management that Telkom Cybernest uses to support Basic Hosting received ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 certification during 2013. This certification is based on international IT service standards and is valid for three years. It was granted after 18 months of preparation and the successful completion of two full audits, which included site visits at Cybernest data centres.
Enterprise software company SAP has applauded Telkom for excellence and innovation in implementing the Supplier Relationship Management 7.0 application. For this, Telkom received two e-Sa'plaia awards, one being a silver award for quality and the other an SAP global delivery innovation award. The project was selected for these accolades after being reviewed by an external audit group and an independent international evaluation team.
Telkom's personal lifestyle services programme for employees, Telkom Touch, was awarded the silver trophy in the employee relationship marketing category at the Assegai Integrated Marketing Awards in November 2013. The programme has helped thousands of employees to maintain a work-life balance and provided valuable lifestyle services, including homework assistance for children, access to financial consulting and legal services, emergency assistance and a 24-hour health helpline, among many others.
For the innovative use of green technology, Telkom’s Cybernest was named the winner of the 2011 South Africa Green Excellence in Technology Innovation Award in the Data Centre Market.
"Through their commitment to innovation and the environment, Cybernest has managed to deliver a data centre facility that is on par with the top 10% energy-efficient data centres in the world," said the Frost & Sullivan assessment. "In addition, the company has managed to not only leapfrog its competitors ... but also pass cost savings to their customers while reducing their carbon footprint."
The Green Excellence Award was presented to Cybernest after it earned the highest scores for technology, business commitment and environmental accountability.
The judges praised Cybernest for saving 4.7 kWh of power per year, which is the highest energy saving in the data centre market.

We also featured in the 2011 Financial Mail Top Empowered companies’ survey. Overall, Telkom was ranked 54 out of 100,and came in seventh out of 10 among ICT participants.

Selection is driven by a methodology that involves researching and identifying the best companies to work for based on a number of factors: the employment framework offered to employees i.e. pay and benefits, working conditions, career development, training and development as well as the overall employment experience from a corporate culture perspective.
In 2011 Telkom was awarded the prestigious “Best Employer” accreditation, and was ranked 4th in the “large size employer” category. In the previous year we were ranked 9th.
In January 2011, the National Empowerment Rating Agency certified Telkom as a level 4 contributor to BBBEE, with value-added supplier status, which allows customers and partners to recognise 110% of their procurement spend for BBBEE with Telkom.
The achievement was to mark the progression of the company’s 2007 BBBEE scorecard rating as a level 6 contributor status.
Expand Networks, the leader in optimizing WANs for branch office consolidation and virtualisation, together with Africa's largest Telco provider, Telkom SA , was jointly honoured at the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards, winning the prestigious prize for Wide Area Network Optimisation.
Telkom and Expand Networks' winning project successfully deployed a managed WAN optimisation service for retail giant SPAR Group, improving performance levels, reducing latency and easing congestion of satellite links that had composed the efficiency of SPAR’s applications and services.
The Department of Social Development has awarded the Telkom Foundation level 3 community contributor status on the National CSI Registrar's Public Recognition Platform.
The Telkom Foundation's contributor status reflects good corporate governance.
